General Information
What to expect during your first consultation?
At RetinaDoc Chicago, we strive to make your visit comfortable and informative. Upon arrival at one of our affiliated clinics, our friendly front-desk staff will greet you. You will then meet with our skilled ophthalmic technician, who will conduct initial vision testing and may perform specialized tests as needed. Following this, Dr. Hussain will discuss your eye health, address any concerns, and outline potential treatment options.
Do I need a referral to consult with Dr. Hussain?
While a referral is not mandatory, it is recommended to have one from your general practitioner, optometrist, or another specialist to ensure comprehensive care and facilitate communication between your healthcare providers.
Where does Dr. Hussain consult and perform surgeries?
Dr. Hussain consults with patients at one of our affiliated clinics and performs surgeries at affiliated hospitals and surgical centers equipped with state-of-the-art technology to ensure the highest standards of patient care.
How much will the procedure cost?
Costs vary depending on the specific procedure and individual insurance coverage. Our administrative team will provide a detailed breakdown of the expected expenses and discuss available payment options during your consultation.
Vitreoretinal Surgery
Is vitreoretinal surgery uncomfortable?
Patients typically experience minimal discomfort during vitreoretinal surgery. Local anesthesia is administered to numb the eye, and sedation may be provided to ensure relaxation throughout the procedure.
Will I need to wear an eye patch after surgery?
An eye patch is usually placed over the operated eye immediately after surgery to protect it and reduce swelling. The patch is generally worn for a short period, and Dr. Hussain will provide specific instructions based on your individual case.
How much drainage should I expect post-surgery?
It is normal to experience mild to moderate drainage for a few days following surgery. This should gradually decrease over time. Gently cleaning the eyelids with a clean washcloth and diluted baby shampoo can help maintain hygiene.
Will there be swelling after vitreoretinal surgery?
Some swelling is expected in the initial days post-surgery. Applying a cool compress for 5-10 minutes several times a day can help reduce swelling and enhance comfort.
How soon will I recover from eye surgery?
Recovery times vary depending on the specific procedure and individual healing processes. Generally, patients can resume normal activities within a few weeks, but it is essential to avoid strenuous activities during the initial recovery period. Dr. Hussain will provide personalized guidance tailored to your situation.
What are the risks of vitreoretinal surgery?
While vitreoretinal surgery is generally safe with high success rates, potential risks include infection, bleeding, retinal detachment, or changes in vision. Dr. Hussain will discuss these risks in detail during your consultation and take all necessary precautions to minimize them.
